How do we decide what we are capable of? Why would I imagine I could do 3 portraits in two and a half hours? I suppose I was initially thinking I wanted to capture the camaraderie of servicemen, and positive aspects of later years in a sketchy style, after a very rapid conceptual sketch of a mediation process had worked surprisingly well. The Three Musketeers, as they are known, at the Royal Hospital Chelsea kindly agreed to pose for a 3 person portrait on the morning of Pintar Rapido 2015. As it was a sunny day, they sat outside their cafe regaling each other, and me, with jokes and stories, as I endeavoured to capture their characters in black ink, after a rudimentary pencil sketch. The traumas they have witnessed are a stark contrast to my sense of priviledge and joy in the luxury of observing and drawing them. I had hoped to raise funds by selling the picture, but sadly that wasn't to be, so they now have it. Thank you gentlemen!
